WAtoday.com.au Entrepreneur Award Winners Announced
Everything from safety equipment for helicopter crashes to tracking technology for the mining industry has helped entrants in the WAtoday Entrepreneur and Innovator Awards to prizes valued at more than $50,000.A patented tracking system won chief executive officer of Track’em, Kashif Saleem, the Curtin Growth Entrepreneur Award, announced on Wednesday at a breakfast at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Perth.
Mr Saleem developed Track’em in 2005, a patented materials tracking system using barcode, GPS and radio frequency identification technology before going on to provide a selection of customised software solutions to mining, oil and gas and construction industries in managing their construction and maintenance projects.
Runner up was managing director of Metro Power Company Timothy Edwards whose business specialises in lowering energy costs for large industrial and commercial companies using data-driven management.
He developed E2M, an artificially intelligence system which has now been installed across 22 industrial and commercial sites.
The Young Entrepreneur Award was won by founder and director of The Jungle Body, Tara Simich.
The 23 year old’s group fitness company have developed five unique workouts.
Starting the company when she was only 19 years old in a local hall, The Jungle Body, has now expanded to nearly 300 licensees teaching the programs in Australia, Britain, Middle East and other international locations.
Runner up was founder and director of The Strategist Group, Bree Mitchelson, whose company specialises in people strategy and HR process outsourcing.
The Strategist Group, a registered training organisation, has been accredited with Certificate IV in Recruitment Sourcing and is the only nationally recognised trainer in strategic recruitment.
Winner of the Telstra Innovator Award was managing director of One Atmosphere, Tim Lyons, who launched One Atmosphere in 2009 to commercialise innovative buoyancy solutions for challenging marine environments.
One Atmosphere has secured significant funding from the Australian Defence Force to demonstrate a version of their buoyancy technology as a post-crash emergency buoyancy system for the ADF’s fleet of Tiger helicopters.
Runner up was chief executive officer of Halo Medical Devices, Hayley Warren.
Starting the business at the age of 27, Hayley has developed a digital device which gives a true measure of joint range with an accuracy of one degree and is being used by two million people.
The winners will share in prizes worth more than $50,000 for the 2014 WAtoday.com.au Entrepreneur and Innovator Awards.
The awards program is designed to acknowledge and encourage both established and emerging entrepreneurs and innovators within Western Australia.
It aims to encourage new and existing business growth through the annual awards.
